My Ultimate Game Chair

June 12th, 2008 by gkcgamers

Hey guys, after months of 10 minutes here… 20 minutes there, it is finally nearing completion.  I may go shoping for a cool seat cover and some wire wraps… but it’s good, real good!  Let me say, these pictures do not do my new chair justice, it’s MUCH cooler than it looks.

So here’s my wonderful room the far right shot is walking in the door…

Myroom1 Myroom2 Myroom3

And now for some chair goodness…  The seat reclines, slides about 6", and swivels.  The main desk part pulls toward you and is covered by glass.   The speakers are arranged in the recommended Dolby locations… all 5.   The newly added 25.5" Samsung, well it’s almost to big… till you actually watch a High Def movie.  Here it is…

And of course, one of the best games of all times, TA, inspired the new best game of all time…

As I sit here trying to update our blog… I review the title… Previous blog March 30th, this blog March 25th… 2008!  Nearly an entire YeAr.  That’s just too long.  So many games, so much fun, so little record.

With this weighing on my mind, durring the review of a few replays, I began snapping off pictures.  This first segment of pictures is perhaps the most colorful battle I’ve ever witnessed… in any game!  This apptimizes why we love SC.

Friday March 30, 2007 Review

April 1st, 2007 by gkcgamers

Ahh what a night… if your name is Highlander, Raxor, or Arby!

The night opened with what had to be one of the most obnoxious high pitched squealing events of 2007;  as Pheonos gave Highlander the 3rd, 4th, and 5th degree for showing up at 9:25.  Despite this verbal battery, Pheonos was not yet prepared to do battle.  And so Game 1 pit Raxor & Highlander vs Genesis & Random Net Guy (RNG).

This game closed out quickly.  After an early push, by yours truly, Genesis felt the need to press <ctrl> k… kaboo, and then there was only one.  After a short time of bulking up, two spiders and a few dozen support bots from both me and Raxor finished off the net guy in glorious fashion.  1-0, it’s gonna be a good night!

By this time Mega and Quickset graced the scene with their presence.  After attempting a 3v3 which failed miserably and left one GKC member still standing on the sideline, we decided to go for a few games drawn from a “hat”.  Game 2 with team drawn at random set Quickset & Highlander vs. Pheonos & Mega.  Right from the start, this game was tight!  Pheonos was unable to obtain his typical dominating score.  Quickset matched him pace for pace with Highlander and Mega following not to far behind.  The game was tense, Quickset kept up some strong pressure, but Pheonos made a fatal mistake.  Pheonos, being the map host, tilted things in his favor.  This map had big metal in the middle.  Pheonos took his commander and began to partake in the metal goodness located in the middle of the map.  Sucking entirely too much sauce Pheonos was left a bit wobbly, just ask Raxor what too much sauce can do.  His metal production was near nil.  This left the team soft despite the heavy artillery and nuclear capability.  Seizing the opportunity, Highlander promptly flew about 80 gunships into downtown MegaHurtz.  Enjoy the goodness, 2-0 baby!

Distraught and humiliated, Pheonos dared not return for the remainder of the evening!  Instead he tried to woo and seduce others into joining him in “other games”.  It took Pheonos much time to regain composure, a feet I’m not sure if he has yet completely accomplished.

From here things became a bit blurry.  Shaken up by Pheonos’s departure the group sputtered a bit, but I believe Game 3 set Quickset & Mega vs Arby & Highlander.  This game was an all out blitz.  With a HUGE T1 rush, 100 tanks and 100 planes, Highlander rolled into down town Quickset and made a large crater.  Sadly, do to the size of the map; Mega was able to tech up before the T1 units could arrive.  His point D made short work of the T1 army.  The outcome of this game looked inevitable, but some distance off. Mega, in an act of mercy, self destructed… 3-0 oh yeah!

By this time a familiar voice logged into TS.  Cyglific graced us with is presence but had patching issues so we fired up Game 4 just to keep loose.  Highlander & Mega vs Arby & RNG.  The game was fast paced and after being completely frustrated by Mega’s bombers attempted one of the oldest piss ya off moves in the book.  He brought his commander to my base in a transport!  In a moment of panic I see stuff firing and BOOOOOOOMMMM!!!  I thought it was game over… fortunately he *only* decimated ¾ of my base, my ACU lived on.  Poor Arby, now he would face the full force of our fury.

Now, a few points of EXTREME noteworthiness.  1) Cyg finally got his game patched.  2) Raxor and Quickset squared off for some 1v1.  In the background, you could hear Quickset laughing, until the unthinkable happened.  Raxor offs Quickset.  Desperate for revenge, Quickset regains his composure and challenges Raxor to a rematch.

Highlander & Mega finish off Arby, and await their next game… 4-0.  At this point, there is no persuading Quickset and Raxor from their 1v1.  Like two wild beasts locked in battle over the headship of the heard, so were these two GKC warriors.  Game 5 pitted Mega & Arby vs Cyg & Highlander while sounds of a furious 1v1 battle range in the background.  Shortly after Game 5 began, Quickset, with great distress, announces I can’t believe it, not again!  Quickset goes AFK to tend to Mark… we know better.

Game 5 continues, Cyglific’s score shows he’s come to play.  Like a stallion he quickly jumps into the lead, setting the mark quite high.  I begin building artillery and pummeling Arby.  The game looks very promising.  In the background Quickset returns, desperate to beat Raxor at least once.  Mega, trying to play the roll of the spoiler builds some major artillery of his own.  The stallion, quickly show’s his age and falls off.  Unable to discern how to counter Mega’s artillery, the young Cyg becomes incredibly frustrated!  Arby hides in the corner building some major ship… one breaks loose but dies quickly to a combination of artillery, plains, and subs… the tension mounts.  Cheers arise from TS, Quickset as managed to beat Raxor, best of 5 or bed?  Attempting to tie up loose ends, my subs go to Arby’s shipyard and stop all further production.  Gitty with a Mavor at 90% complete, anti nuke complete, and the 1st anti nuke ½ way complete I hear, strategic launch detected… NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! SOB.  Kaboom!!  Good by Mavor, Good bye anti nuke…  Mega!!  Right about this time, Arby’s ACU shows up in Cygs base, and he’s looking large.  VERY large.  Arby pumped his commander full of some major mojo juice!  He blows through Cyg in about 10 seconds!  With the air ripe for defeat, I pull the cheap gunship attack on Mega’s somewhat exposed ACU…… Kabooom, good night Mega, take that!  I fly my ships over to Arby’s commander who simply laughs and goes under water!  Suddenly Arby’s commander shows up in downtown Highlander looking all buff… 10 seconds, Highlander goes boom, Arby steals the show with a super charged ACU, great game!

What a night.  Pheonos falls from the sky like a comet set afire upon re-entry into the Earth’s atmosphere.  Raxor in a drunken stooper kills Quickset, not once but twice!  And what of that third game, was it an act of mercy?  We had already lost one gamer for the evening?  To top it all off, Arby rising from the aches pulls of an ACU rush that decimated two T3 bases and didn’t even scratch his paint!  Tuesday could be interesting….

Game on!!

TewL’s game night fillers!

Greetings GKC and anyone else lame enough to be reading a semi-private blog about a group of aging geeks and their bordering-on-unhealthy appreciation of giant robots.

Supreme commander is our game, and I love it dearly. I’ve noticed though over the past few get togethers there’s a good chunk of time spent waiting for other guys to finish up a round. If you’re like me you want to squeeze the maximum amount of cyber-violence out of our evenings together. With this in mind I came to post some really fun games that one or two or 4 of us can play while we wait for Pheonos to steamroll some poor schmuck. This way everyone can finish their games and not feel rushed…and those of us waiting can have a blast too.

The criteria for what I’ve come up with are the following:

  • We need games that are fun for small groups of guys, 2-4 players.
  • Free games so that everyone can join in and blast away while we wait for the next big round of SupCom.
  • Games that can be fun even if only played for short periods of time, this leads me to fast paced action games.

Hamachi:
This is a free application used to setup a virtual LAN over the internet. I use it all the time with my little brother and it works like a charm, no firewall configuration is necessary. I’ll make a network called “GKC” and the password will be “gkc1” Any game that any one of us hosts on this network the game will show up as a LAN game for the other guys. http://www.hamachi.cc/download/list.php (895kb)

Soldat:

Think “worms” meets “Unreal Tournament”. Its a 2d side scrolling death match fragfest. The only cost is a 12 meg download. (unless you want extra features like your own MP3 music list and colored jetpack trails) the registered version doesn’t add any substance to the game, just extras. www.soldat.pl (11.4mb)

FEAR combat:
The full multiplayer component of FEAR was released as a free download. It’s a deathmatch game that reminds me a lot of action quake2. There’s slow mo powerups and lots of gore. This is the game for us if you guys want to stretch the legs on those fancy new graphics cards with a game besides SupCom. FEAR is one of the Best Looking FPSs on the market. To illustrate the appeal of this game let me share the following:

You hear the enemy coming up an adjacent hallway, you hit the slow-mo button just before he rounds the corner…. you toss a frag grenade and quickly shoulder your assault rifle. Just as the unsuspecting enemy rounds the corner you fire off a quick burst, not at him, but at the grenade currently floating around head level next to him. Your time perception returns to normal speed as a cloud of goo that used to be the top half of your enemy paints the hallway red. (yes this is completely doable in fear) It’s a 1.77 gigabyte download but it’s worth it.

Warsow:
This is like fine scotch amongst the wall of malt-liquor deathmtach games. It captures the same zen of competitive Quake 3. Warsow is even better in a lot of aspects, and those of you who know me know how highly I regard my beloved Quake 3. It’s a cell shaded, fast paced, skill oriented deathmatch masterpiece. It even has CTF and all the modes you’d expect. It plays like competitive quake 3, It looks a lot like quake 3, exept with the cell shading to make the graphics more contrasty for competitive play. It is awesome. Please download this.

Please let me know what you guys think of these suggestions over teamspeak or IM, I can’t wait to game with you all.

Official GKC Launch!!

March 15th, 2007 by gkcgamers

Welcome Game Knight Crew!

It all began in a basement, before the internet and before Windows 95, in the dark days marked by MS Dos. It was a far simpler life, no firewalls, few driver problems, and boot times that were fast. The year was 1994 and SunTV was the catalyst that united men and transformed them to geeks. Doom, Rise of the Triad, WarCraft 2, and of course Total Annihillation.

Within a few short years, our gaming crew had grown. Fortunately, we found a nice sized garage in which we could gather and game till the sun rose. The octagon table, the smell of kerosene, dashing between the garage and house in the dead of winter, standing at the basement toilette ahh such fond memories! Alas, time stands still for no-one; families grew. The internet was born and online gaming began to take shape. Fading were the days of lugging your PC and camping out with a bunch of friends.

Nearly 10 years have passed, the year is now 2007 and the heart of a true gamer can not be squelched. Inspired by the long, long, long awaited release of TA:2 (Supreme Commander) a new generation embraces the spirit of computer gaming. And so our log begins….
