Official GKC Launch!!

Welcome Game Knight Crew!

It all began in a basement, before the internet and before Windows 95, in the dark days marked by MS Dos. It was a far simpler life, no firewalls, few driver problems, and boot times that were fast. The year was 1994 and SunTV was the catalyst that united men and transformed them to geeks. Doom, Rise of the Triad, WarCraft 2, and of course Total Annihillation.

Within a few short years, our gaming crew had grown. Fortunately, we found a nice sized garage in which we could gather and game till the sun rose. The octagon table, the smell of kerosene, dashing between the garage and house in the dead of winter, standing at the basement toilette ahh such fond memories! Alas, time stands still for no-one; families grew. The internet was born and online gaming began to take shape. Fading were the days of lugging your PC and camping out with a bunch of friends.

Nearly 10 years have passed, the year is now 2007 and the heart of a true gamer can not be squelched. Inspired by the long, long, long awaited release of TA:2 (Supreme Commander) a new generation embraces the spirit of computer gaming. And so our log begins….

I have been holding out on you all. I’m sure you have imagined by the quality of my play that I, until recently, was a complete noob at online strategy gaming. In fact, I am not. My first experience was in college in the early 80’s. That’s right. The early 80’s. It wasn’t even the internet. It was pre-internet. At the University of Kentucky we had a link with the University of Louisville. I ran into some guys (and girls) who would chat and play on-line games with a group at the other school until the wee hours on pirated computer science student account numbers. Thus my criminal past is also revealed. Then, in the early nad middle 90’s I played a hell of a lot of Starcraft on-line on dial-up. So I may well beat out even Highlander in length of service to the Great Time Waster.

By the way, for those who don’t know, Erich = MegaHurtz.

…. and the truth shall set you free. Man did you play us! You know, I have a confession too, I’ve been gaming with my feet. You see, I am a snack monster in human form. Thus, in order to free my hands to eat pretzels while gaming, I must use my toes to maneuver the mouse. … well, NO MORE, now that I know Mega’s sorted history, I shall show no mercy!! Prepare to be crushed!

I too became fond of multiplayer gaming at college. The game was conquest and it was played on a VAX. The heck with going out to bars on Friday nights, we’d order in and hang out in the computer center. The year was… 1989.

    Game on!

I played lots of console games until the mid 90s. While visiting a good friend of mine at the Lehigh University dorms I was invited to join in on a game of quake. I hid in a corner and lobbed grenades out at random guys running by. I laughed like a girl as some dude from down the hall started yelling obsceneties at me. From then on I was a deathmaching machine. I added RTS to my nerdy diet of entertainment when total annihilation came out in 97. I really haven’t loved an RTS as much since…until SupCom.

Stephen = TewL by the way. And just for the record i’m still WAY better at twitch deathmatch than I am at RTS. So go easy on me ok. :)
